LANSING, MI – More than a dozen players won at least $1 million, but there was no winner of the $640 million Powerball jackpot for the drawing held on Saturday, Jan. 16. That means the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, Jan. 20 will be worth $730 million with a cash option of $546 million.

Saturday night’s drawing came one night after a $750 million Mega Millions jackpot drawing was held.

Powerball winners for Jan. 16:

· While there was no grand prize winner, 16 players matched all five white numbers drawn to win $1 million. Those tickets were sold in California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia. Two of those winners were sold in California and three others in Texas.

The last player from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis of Waterford who won $70 million playing Powerball in February. With her winnings, Davis said she planned to buy a new house and car.

And while she was a lucky winner, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Hartland in 2019 went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Hartland, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.

If you’d like to be the next player from Michigan to win a huge lottery prize, take a look at these tips from lottery expert Richard Lustig. The author of “Learn How To Increase Your Chances Of Winning The Lottery” has won more than $1 million in Florida by winning top jackpot prizes in smaller games.

Georgia Powerball Numbers

Georgia is one of the few states that allows Powerball winners to remain anonymous. This law was introduced in May 2018, eight years after The Peach State joined the lottery on January 21st 2010. There have been many Georgian jackpot winners since then, including William and Heather ten Broeke, recipients of $246 million in September 2016. Georgia also allows its players to play online, an option only available in a handful of states. View the Georgia Powerball numbers below.

The total prize fund paid out to Georgia winners from Saturday’s Powerball drawing was $2,569,455. However, in the past five draws the state has had an average prize fund of $1,966,587 per draw, which means the fund for the latest one was about 30.66% higher than average.

Lost and Damaged Tickets

Damaged tickets may still be redeemed depending on their condition. You can visit any one of the lottery’s district offices for further information about lost and damaged tickets, and the process needed to still claim your prize. Lottery tickets are bearer instruments, meaning that whoever is in possession of one can claim prizes with it. You should always sign the back of your ticket when you purchase it, so in the event someone else does try to claim a prize with it, you can prove that you are the rightful owner.

Going Public

Georgia allows lottery winners of $250,000 or more to remain anonymous. If you win a lower amount your name, place of residence, and the amount you win are deemed to be public information so may be disclosed.

Where Does the Money Go?

Each year, a portion of revenue generated from ticket sales is allocated to the Lottery for Education Fund, which supports educational programs throughout the state, including the HOPE and Pre-K programs.

HOPE gives Georgian students financial assistance to attend universities, colleges and technical colleges in the area, and the Georgia Lottery has distributed over $8 billion to more than 1.8 million pupils since 1993. The Pre-K program allows four-year-olds throughout the state to enjoy a quality pre-school experience before beginning kindergarten. Over $5 billion has been put towards this cause since 1993.

The table below shows exactly how the revenue from ticket sales is split:

Aread of Spending Percentage of Revenue
Prizes 63.9%
Funds to Education 25.7%
Retailer Commission 6.2%
Operating Expenses 4.2%

$200,000 of any unclaimed prize money from each fiscal year is also allocated to the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities to fund education and treatment programs for problem gamblers.
