NEW JERSEY – There was a big winner in the Powerball jackpot for Wednesday, one of the largest prizes in the game’s history. And there were three big winners in New Jersey, too.

Somebody in Maryland won the jackpot worth an estimated $731.1 million — among the biggest jackpots in all US lottery history, game officials said.

The winning Powerball numbers for Wednesday, March 27, are: 40, 53, 60, 68, 69 and the Powerball of 22.

In New Jersey, three tickets were sold that matched five of the five white balls, winning the $1 million second-tier prize.

Those tickets were purchased at the following locations:

  • Camden County: 7-Eleven #16158, 615 North Haddon Ave., Haddonfield;
  • Gloucester County: Wawa #951, 856 Mantua Park, Woodbury Heights; and,
  • Middlesex County: Exxon, 4150 Route 1 North & Stouts Ln., Monmouth Junction.

In addition, six New Jersey Lottery tickets matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball drawn winning the $50,000 third-tier prize. One of those tickets was purchased with Power Play, multiplying the prize to $150,000. The third-tier winning tickets from Wednesday night’s drawing were sold at the following locations:

  • Middlesex County ($150,000): Corkscrew Wine & Liquor, 355 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Township;
  • Atlantic County ($50,000): Shop Rite #612, 23 Bethel Rd., Somers Point;
  • Bergen County ($50,000): 7-Eleven #39225, 31-28 Broadway, Fairlawn;
  • Camden County ($50,000): Wawa #8310, 201 W. Whitehorse Pike, Berlin;
  • Monmouth County ($50,000): Soda King, 300 Gordons Corner Rd., Manalapan; and,
  • Ocean County ($50,000): Lacey Liquors, 349 Route 9, Lanoka Harbor.

New Jersey players took home an estimated $1,192,043 in prizes ranging from $4 to $300. The Powerball jackpot resets to $20 million for the next drawing to be held Saturday, January 23, at 10:59 p.m.

The announcement came a day after two people in New Jersey won $1 million in the Mega Millions lottery, with the jackpot nearing $1 million. Read more: 2 $1 Million Winners In NJ As Mega Millions Jackpot Nears $1B: PM

When Can You Get COVID-19 Vaccine In NJ? Here’s The New 2021 List

UPDATE: New Jersey has released the list that shows, in order, when you can get the COVID-19 vaccine and where. Here’s what you should know.

You have a better chance of hitting the jackpot if you let the computer pick your numbers, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which operates the Powerball game and reports that about 75 percent of winning tickets have numbers chosen by a computer.

When millions more players take part in the game at times there’s a huge jackpot, that doesn’t change your odds of winning, the lottery says. The odds of winning a prize are the same in every Powerball drawing — you have a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a prize when the jackpot reaches $40 million or $1 billion.

The lottery game is played in 44 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball drawings can be seen on 125 TV stations nationwide. They may also be available on cable or your mobile device. Drawing shows are also posted to Powerball.com under the video section and to YouTube.

View all New Jersey Lottery game winning numbers and drawings for the Pick-3, Pick-4, Jersey Cash 5, Pick-6, CASH4LIFE and 5 Card Cash games on the Lottery website (www.NJLottery.com) or on the official Lottery Facebook Page.

Evening draws, with the exception of CASH4LIFE and 5 Card Cash, can be seen on WPIX-TV (PIX11) in New York and WPHL-TV (PHL17) in Philadelphia. Powerball and Mega Millions drawings can be seen on WABC-TV or WTXF stations.

Claiming, Safeguarding Powerball Winnings

So, what should you do if you are lucky enough to claim the Powerball jackpot? Many lottery winners hire an attorney, financial planner or both, since most people don’t exactly know what to do when they suddenly come into so much money. Some even bring their lawyer with them to claim their prize. The lottery does not offer counseling services or financial advice for winners.

You have two choices when you claim your prize: the full value paid in 30 installments over 29 years, or a one-time lump sum that is smaller than the actual total. Then there are the taxes. The federal tax on lottery winnings is 25 percent. Then, any extra income taxes like state or city would apply.

Financial experts suggest that if you can get more than a 3 or 4 percent return on an investment, the lump sum is actually the best way to go in the long-term.
