Powerball Results, Numbers For 5/16/20: Did Anyone Win the $86 Million Jackpot on Saturday (Last) Night?

The winning numbers in Saturday night’s Powerball draw were 8, 12, 26, 39 and 42. The Powerball was 11 and the Power Play was 2X.

But no one claimed the $86 million jackpot in the May 16 draw, so it will carry over to the next drawing on May 21. The estimated jackpot then will be $95 million with a cash value of $76.7 million.

Although no one won the jackpot in Saturday night’s draw, there were some big winners, including one player who matched five balls to win a $1 million prize.

Eight players correctly matched four balls and the Powerball to win $50,000 prizes. Four more players also had the Power Play feature and won $100,000.

There hasn’t been a Powerball jackpot winner since the April 9 draw. A player in New Jersey scooped the $190 million jackpot after buying a ticket at Buy-Rite Liquor in Piscataway.

Before that, a woman in Florida scooped the $396.9 million jackpot from a drawing in January. Sheryll Goedert, 61, from Ocala, chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of around $276.6 million.

How to play the Powerball lottery

Powerball jackpot

Many factors determine the advertised Powerball jackpot amount, including game sales and the annuity. Saturday drawings have greater game sales than a Wednesday drawing, for example, and the amount of tickets purchase can vary throughout the year.

The annuity, which funds an annuity prize, can be affected by interest rates, as the higher the interest rates, the higher the advertised Grand Prize.

The difference between the Powerball annuity and cash option is that a jackpot winner can choose to either receive the money as an annuity which is made up of 30 graduated payments increased by 5 percent each year over 29 years or as a lump-sum payment paid out in one go.

The cash value option is the amount of money needed in the jackpot prize pool to fund the estimated jackpot annuity prize.

The winning numbers in Saturday night’s Powerball draw were 8, 12, 26, 39 and 42. The Powerball was 11 and the Power Play was 2X.

The Powerball jackpot for 05/16/20 was for $86 million, and here are the numbers from the Saturday drawing.

  • First Five: 08-12-26-39-42
  • Powerball: 11
  • Power Play: 2x

Saturday night’s 05/16/20 Powerball jackpot was estimated at $86 million, with a cash option of $69.2 million. The jackpot could have increased if sales furthered lottery projections, according to officials.

The winning numbers on Wednesday (05/13/20) for the $77 million Powerball jackpot were: 39-53-54-56-57 with a Powerball of 20. The Power Play was 3x.

There was no grand prize winner on Wednesday, but there was one ticket sold in Texas that matched all five white balls, and just missing out on the red Powerball, for the game’s second prize. Since they purchased the Power Play for an extra $1, their second prize is now worth $2 million.

The last winning ticket sold was purchased in New Jersey for the 04/08/20 jackpot worth $190 million. Normally, the game would reset to a $40 million minimum, but the current COVID-19 pandemic forced Powerball officials to cut the minimum jackpot in half, starting with the 04/11/20 jackpot that was $20 million.

The previous grand prize won before that was $70 million in the 02/12/20 drawing with a ticket purchased in Michigan. The grand prize winner before that was on 01/29/20. That ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven store in Bonita Springs, Florida, for the $394 million grand prize, which had a cash option of $274.6 million.

The last grand prize winning ticket before that was sold in California on 11/02/19 for a jackpot of $150 million. The Powerball jackpot rolled over 33 times before the Bonita Springs ticket was purchased on January 29, 2020.

The odds of hitting the grand prize jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338, regardless of the jackpot size—according to Powerball’s website.

Powerball is a multi-state lottery played every Wednesday and Saturday, and one of America’s two biggest lottery jackpot games. Powerball jackpots start at $20 million, and other prizes pay from $1 million to $2 million with a Power Play. Tickets are $2. You can check the numbers for tonight, or any past winning numbers, on the official Powerball website.

The other multi-state lottery is Mega Millions, which is played on Tuesdays and Fridays. Like Powerball, the jackpot is reset at $20 million after a jackpot is won, and one line of numbers is $2, with a $1 option to multiply their winnings with a Megaplier. Here is the Mega Millions website for more information, or to check any potential past numbers.

There are nine ways to win money during the Powerball. Just getting the powerball with no other numbers pays out $4, and even more if the power play is bought for an extra dollar. The same payout goes for one ball plus the powerball, and $7 is the payout for two correct numbers with the powerball, or three correct numbers and no powerball.

If all five white, numbered balls are chosen but the red powerball is not correct, then the payout is $1 million, with an even higher payout if the power play is chosen.
